Career Profiles & Openings

Academic Medical Directors
Pennhurst has provided more academic medical directors in the field of MR/DD than any other organization that we know of.  Physicians with a commitment to this field and wish an academic position should contact us immediately.

Administrative Medical Director
Most commonly a position in those states with high managed care penetration and a desire to improve services.   This is a very sophisticated position and we are eager to bring physicians on board in areas where they can develop into mature administrative medical resource executives.

Behavioral Support Psychologists (Certified Behavioral Analysts)
Projects in this field are many, ranging from treatment for criminal offenders committed under various state laws  (ie. Jimmy Ryce - FL/Oklahoma, etc.) to private and upscale private practice situations in New York City.

Billing and Financial Specialists
As Pennhurst provides turn-key billing and related services for multiple clients, numerous positions are open for experienced personnel.

Clinical Medical Directors
These positions are our front line in the direct provision of healthcare at facilities across the United States. 

Correctional Psychologists
Correctional Healthcare positions are available in either staffing or equity-related positions. 

Cost Survey Specialists
We are also constantly reviewing applicants for these positions as they require a background in the financial aspects both large and small MR/DD programs.

Dentists and Dental Specialists
There are approximately 174,000 dental jobs in the United States and the vast majority are located in private dental offices.  Limited openings exist with our clients.

Ed.S. Psychologists
Many of the positions in this category are as school psychologists.

Expert Witness
if you are considering entering this area of service, we can put your credentials before organizations that would appreciate your help.  Areas include Federal and Civil litigation, including Medical Malpractice and Breach of Contract.

Home Health Registered Nurses
Our staff provide periodic services, prescribed by a physician, to patients at home. After assessing patients' residential environments, they care for and instruct patients and their families. You must be able to work independently and at times supervise health aides.

Human Service Workers and Assistants (Direct Care)
It has been estimated that there are over 270,000 people providing these services in the United States.  We have excellent opportunities for Case Management Aides, Drug Abuse Counselors, Mental Health Aides, Gerontology Aides and Social Work Assistants.

Juvenile Facility Psychologists
One of our most growth oriented positions. 

Licensed Practical Nurse
Licensed Practical Nurses provide care under the direction of physicians and registered nurses, they provide nursing care that requires highly developed technical knowledge. We have a great number of openings for LPN's, including our nursing home facilities.

Nurse Practitioner
Adult Nurse Practitioners are needed to assume expanded roles in providing health care for adults.

Nursing Administration
This area involves supervision of planned worked schedules and duty assignments to our nurses and aides, providing or arranging for training, and visiting patients to observe nurses and to insure that the care is proper.

Nursing Home Psychologists
An excellent area for those developmental psychologists who specialize in behavior during maturity or old age.

Positions include:

Nursing Home Staff
Nursing home staffing requirements include medical directors, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, physical therapists and other professionals.

Occupational therapists
Employment is projected to increase. Progressively more occupational therapists are increasingly taking on supervisory roles in the organization.  Openings exist in both pediatric and rehabilitative areas.

Occupational Therapy Aide
Aides are not licensed. Typically they help prepare materials and assemble equipment used during treatment and are responsible for a wide range of clerical tasks.  Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma, good interpersonal skills, a desire to help the health care team, and a good work ethic.

Occupational Therapy Assistants
Employment is projected to increase, however, recent Federal spending cuts will make this a very slow increase compared to other positions in healthcare.  Approximately 50% of Occupational Therapy Assistants work in offices of occupational therapists, while 30% work in hospital settings.

Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians
Pharmacists held about 190,000 jobs in the United States. We have both full and part time opportunities.

Physical Therapists 
There currently are approximately 120,000 therapists in the United States.  We have numerous openings for specialists and part-time aides.

Ph.D. Psychologists
Many opportunities are available in Government, teaching, research, clinical and counseling positions.

Psychiatrists
Numerous openings are available for Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurses and Aides.

Psychologists - General
There are about 170,000 psychologists in the United States. Employment in psychology for those with only a bachelor's degree is less than those with a doctoral degree. Pennhurst employees outstanding professionals at our various state owned and operated facilities.

Psy.D. Psychologists
The clinical positions that are available for Federal Agencies primarily include the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense.   

Registered Nurses
RN staffing is a high-priority area at Pennhurst.  We would welcome your inquiry and urge you to contact us for either full or part-time opportunities that will interest you. We have a great respect for nurses in all fields and this shows itself throughout our organization.

There are currently over 2,200,000 nurses working in the United States. About 28% of these nurses worked part time. We welcome those nurses who move into the business side of health care and have opportunities for you to manage ambulatory, acute, home health, and chronic care services.

Social Workers
Master's degrees are becoming the norm for many positions. Social workers hold about 620,000 jobs in the United States, with fifty percent being in local government agency positions.  We have excellent opportunities in the Clinical, Mental Health, Child Protection and Juvenile Justice sectors.

Special Education Teachers
Most special education teacher openings are at the elementary, middle, and secondary school level, although some teachers work with infants and toddlers.  Read More...
